A Call to Music Ministry
GYC Africa 2026 invites you to be a part of our sacred music ministry. We are seeking music ministers—groups, individuals, and instrumentalists—who feel called to lead delegates into a Spirit-filled worship experience. Our goal is to prepare hearts to receive God’s Word and to awaken souls to ARISE in response to the Holy Spirit’s call.
Music does not only compliment worship, it is a sacred act of worship itself. It is a divine tool to lift our thoughts to that which is pure, noble, and elevating. As such, we are looking for ministers of the gospel whose service will support the conference theme, and to create an atmosphere of reverence, revival, and gratitude to God.
Please read the following guidelines carefully before applying.
Guidelines
To uphold the sacredness of music ministry and ensure alignment with the theme, all music ministers (groups, individuals and instrumentalists) will be vetted based on the following criteria;
1. Spiritual Identity and Alignment
- Should be an active Seventh-day Adventist youth or young adult group in good standing with the local church/conference/union.
- Demonstrates faithfulness to Scripture and commitment to sound Adventist doctrine in belief and practice.
- Upholds music as a form of worship and ministry, not entertainment or performance
2. Content and Theology
- All songs must have meaningful, biblically sound, and theologically accurate content
- Lyrics should uplift Christ, reflect truth, and point hearers to God’s character, mission, and message
- Songs should avoid shallow, repetitive, or emotionally manipulative expressions that lack spiritual depth
3. Presentation and Deportment
- Presenters should exhibit Christian modesty in attire, avoiding clothing that draws attention to self or undermines the solemnity of worship
- Deportment on stage should reflect reverence, humility, and spiritual decorum, avoiding excessive movement, dramatization, or worldly mannerisms
4. Musical Skill and Preparation
- Should demonstrate musical competence (basic understanding of harmony, rhythm, dynamics, and tone).
- Presentations should be well-rehearsed, with quality in vocal blending, intonation, diction, and timing.
- Instrumental accompaniment should enhance, not overpower, the message of the song.
5. Cultural Richness and Linguistic Diversity
- Music ministry should reflect the diversity of the African continent, embracing various languages and indigenous sounds while maintaining Adventist standards
- Songs presented in African languages must be accompanied by clear English translations to ensure that all delegates, regardless of linguistic background, can fully engage in worship.
- Where possible, at least 50% of songs should be in a language other than English to promote inclusivity and cultural expression.
- A diverse range of genres and styles (e.g., hymns, anthems, spirituals, choral, acapella, etc.) is welcomed—as long as they align with Adventist principles of balance, modesty, and reverence.
6. Focus on Worship, Not Entertainment
- All music should direct hearts heavenward, inviting worship, not mere appreciation.
- Musicians should avoid applause-seeking behaviour or concert-style engagement.
- The spiritual atmosphere should be preserved before, during, and after the music offering.
All submissions will be prayerfully reviewed by the Music Committee in collaboration with the Programming Team. Approved ministers will be expected to participate in devotionals, rehearsals, and pre-conference preparation.
